From organic waste to a solution to drought. Biochar is a soil conditioner that gets its properties from carbonizing organic waste such as fruit peel, coffee grinds, etc. Due to the high carbon content in organic waste, biochar is porous and greatly improves soil water retention, which greatly benefits agricultural communities in times of drought. Seeing the effects biochar had on rice, a staple crop in Thailand, and experiencing first-hand the effort and hard labor that farmers put in to provide the country with its food supply, BTR's founder worked with a professor from Chulalongkorn University to create an eco-friendly biochar carbonization chambers that reduce greenhouse gas emissions by a significant margin by recirculating the smoke produced back into the chamber to provide additional heat to the carbonization process. BTR aims to spread the use of this chamber and of biochar in hopes that farmers will not have to suffer the losses of their crops and profits due to drought.Biochar
